Christmas is stressing me the elf out this year.
I live in a fantasy land where I believe there should be nothing but magical talking snowmen, underdog reindeer that save Christmas, and maple syrup incorporated into every meal.
I also believe no one should have to work for the entire month of December.
I want to get drunk on Christmas cheer and I don’t want any responsibilities or obligations getting in the way.
I want to get so excited that I can’t sleep, even if there are dancing sugar plums involved.
I can’t sleep.
Because I’m busy making mental to-do lists and checking them twice.
Make that three times.
Four if you include the compulsive online checking to make sure purchases made it to their destination.
I wish I could be seven again.
When the anticipation of Christmas wasn’t associated with attacks of anxiety.
I’m going to be seven seven again.
I’m going to turn on Frosty the Snowman, put on my foot-y jammies, and make a batch of homemade play-doh.
No cook play-doh. (Because I’m seven).
No cook peppermint play-doh.
No cook peppermint glitter play-doh.
It’s a basic salt dough.
Extract and glitter optional.
But not really.
You must do this.
Mix all ingredients until dough forms.
Play like no one is watching.
Except Santa. He’s always watching.
No Cook Play-Doh
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup salt
1 cup water
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 tablespoon peppermint extract
Mix flour, salt, oil, and water in a large bowl until pliable dough is formed.
Add extract and glitter.
Lots and lots of glitter.
Now I’m going to go get crunk on candy canes.
And not brush my teeth.
Because they’ll already be minty fresh.
I love being seven.
